Energy Budgeting: The science of anti-capitalist & somatic self-care with Alexis Rockley

  • Virtual via Zoom! (map)

What kinds of things do you do to practice self-care? Okay, but what happens when you have no motivation to do those things?

You need a self-care toolkit that changes as often as you do.

  • if you’re trying to take care of yourself, but unsure you have the energy to “make healthy choices” or “do it right,” if that even exists—

  • if you’re pretty sure self-care is an important part of being a modern human, but the hyper-individualism and #girlbossification of the topic makes you cringe—

  • if you already know ‘productivity’ is a capitalist scam, but you struggle to relax when you finally have free time—

Come hang out with us on December 12th, for Energy Budgeting: the science of anti-capitalist & somatic self-care with Alexis Rockley!

In this 90-min workshop you’ll:

  • discover the missing ingredient in your quest to rest—and why you’ve been suspicious of the #SelfCare trend all along

  • meet the neural network in charge of your motivation, attention, and mood (why isn’t this taught in school?!)

  • learn how to decode your brain’s messages about rest, stress, and what your body needs right now, using the activation spectrum

  • start developing your own “user guide” to you — including self-care tools that adapt to your real-life circumstances and energy levels

This event, like all IMBY events (and membership!), is priced on a sliding scale, which you can read more as to why and how to pick what level is best for you here. No one is turned away for lack of funds! Email us at hi@imby.io if you need a free ticket.

About Alexis Rockley

Alexis Rockley (she/her) is a positive psychology-certified and trauma-informed coach, author, and edu-tainer obsessed with translating the science of self-compassion & anti-grind productivity into practical resources for anyone who grew up on the Internet.

She's the author of Find Your Fckyeah: Stop Censoring Who You are and Discover What You Really Want* (via Chronicle Books) and host of the voicemail-style podcast, Call Me When You Get This. Her work has been featured by Upworthy, SoulPancake, ATTN:, The Washington Post, and more.

Forever curious, she earned her Specialization Certificate in Positive Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania in early 2019, and is completing her Integrative Somatic Trauma Therapy certificate as we speak. When she's not nerding out on psychology, sociology, somatics (and searching for decolonized perspectives in all three) she can be found rescuing plants from Ikea and throwing one-woman dance parties on Instagram.

About IMBY

IMBY is a virtual community center for people who give a shit about co-creating a more just and equitable future. It's a respite for those who are sick and tired of having to explain "why" they care about working towards liberation, and seek to be in community with those who feel the same.

IMBY is a place to practice rest, to find nourishment, tools, and resources, and to connect with others. IMBY is a place to be — to learn, soak up knowledge, connect deeply to one another — and not another membership program with a long to-do list. It's a place to be social off social media while practicing our values of community care.

It's a community co-created by the members, with transparency at its core. We hold anti-oppressive, anti-racist, and anti-capitalist values (though not an anti-racist educational space; we leave that to the experts, of course). We celebrate a variety of lived experiences, opinions, backgrounds, and identities while holding our values, security, and harm-reduction at the highest importance.

We seek to be your favorite place on the Internet to kick off your shoes and slide into your slippers, to take a load off, your soft place to land, exhale, and feel seen, heard, and understood, while simultaneously being the soft space to have hard conversations.
