How To Talk About Money with Bear Hebert

  • Virtual via Zoom! (map)

Talking about money strikes fear into many of our hearts, but it doesn't have to be this way! Capitalism teaches us to feel ashamed for not having money, guilty for having it, and confused about if and when it's ever okay to have a conversation about it. These feelings follow us into our small businesses!

We can unlearn these capitalist norms and replace them with anti-capitalist values that let us talk freely and easily about money in business. How To Talk About Money offers practical skill-building for how to talk about money with your clients in all aspects of business: from pricing on your website, to talking pricing on sales calls, to troubleshooting when things go awry.

This event, like all IMBY events (and membership!), is priced on a sliding scale, which you can read more as to why and how to pick what level is best for you here. No one is turned away for lack of funds! Email us at hi@imby.io if you need a free ticket.

About Bear Hebert

Bear Hebert (they/them) is an anti-capitalist business coach and social justice educator. They grew up in south Louisiana and now live in Brooklyn on Lenape land. They've been fully self-employed since 2014, and now they help fellow small business people (and other beloved weirdos) figure out how to build the world-yet-to-come inside the world-that-currently-is. Their side gig is teaching men+ how to unlearn patriarchy. Bear believes that relational work is real work, and emotional work is movement work; they're trying to help us all get a little more free.

About IMBY

IMBY is a virtual community center for people who give a shit about co-creating a more just and equitable future. It's a respite for those who are sick and tired of having to explain "why" they care about working towards liberation, and seek to be in community with those who feel the same.

IMBY is a place to practice rest, to find nourishment, tools, and resources, and to connect with others. IMBY is a place to be — to learn, soak up knowledge, connect deeply to one another — and not another membership program with a long to-do list. It's a place to be social off social media while practicing our values of community care.

It's a community co-created by the members, with transparency at its core. We hold anti-oppressive, anti-racist, and anti-capitalist values (though not an anti-racist educational space; we leave that to the experts, of course). We celebrate a variety of lived experiences, opinions, backgrounds, and identities while holding our values, security, and harm-reduction at the highest importance.

We seek to be your favorite place on the Internet to kick off your shoes and slide into your slippers, to take a load off, your soft place to land, exhale, and feel seen, heard, and understood, while simultaneously being the soft space to have hard conversations.
