RIGHT NOW: WHERE ARE YOU, WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON, AND WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE ITEM YOU’RE WEARING?
Right now I am in my kitchen in Joshua Tree, getting ready to finish my latest painting and then give a tarot reading. My favorite item I am wearing is a gold necklace that says Jupiter (a la Sex and the City Carrie necklace).
SUM UP YOUR STYLE IN ONE SENTENCE.
I have a pretty eclectic style. I would say if you took 1980s goth, 1990s grunge, and 1970s glamour and put it in a blender and sprinkled it with glitter, that would roughly describe it.
WHAT INSPIRES YOU ABOUT THE WORK YOU DO?
I have a deep spiritual connection with my work. The most inspiring thing is how this works that I do touches the lives of others and helps them in their journey of self-reflection and reaching their physical and spiritual goals.
HOW DO YOU LIVE ‘MINDFULLY?’
I’m a bit of a scatterbrain so it’s a struggle for me sometimes to take deep breaths and stay aware of my actions. I put a lot of weight on listening to my intuition. Each day I try to take care of my needs and listen to my gut, having trust that I will be lead to where I need to be.
WHAT’S THE FIRST THING YOU DO WHEN YOU WAKE UP?
The first thing I do when I wake up in the morning is make my bed, put on a cassette tape, make black tea, and check my emails. I also give some love to my huge lumpy cat and light my altar candles.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE YOU TO GET READY IN THE MORNING?
I get ready pretty quickly. I’d say 15-20 min. My wardrobe is full of colors and sparkles, so it is like playing dress up.
WHAT’S YOUR GO-TO WORKOUT?
I love hiking and yoga. There is a great Yoga studio in Joshua Tree called Instant Karma and they have a yoga class that has a 15min sound bath meditation at the end. I try and make it to that class at least once a week. I also consider dancing in my mirror as a workout which is a daily routine.
WHAT DO YOU DO TO KEEP YOUR LIFE (AND CLOSET!) A LEAN, MEAN, CLUTTER-FREE MACHINE?
I love cleaning out my closet and objects. Since I was a child I loved organizing. I try to only keep the things that I need or that make me happy. I cycle through a lot of clothes, it helps me reinvent my style.
YOU’RE A BUSY BABE. HOW DO YOU BALANCE WORK, HEALTH, AND YOUR RELATIONSHIPS?
Wow! Hard question! It is still a balancing act for me. This is my second year of running this business and I am learning things every day. I put a lot of pressure on myself to work hard and achieve my goals artistically and as a business woman. Being out here in the desert has helped me give more space and time for relationships and self-care. I think sometimes as women running things, we feel we have to do it all and prove ourselves worthy (because of the patriarchy). This is something that I struggle with a lot. I’m learning how to make up my own vision of success and work to be held accountable to, not the societal structures that have been laid out for me.
WHAT PODCASTS OR BLOGS DO YOU KEEP UP WITH?
Radiolab is my all time fav podcast. I also love the podcast Criminal. Anything about science or the justice system.
WHO DO YOU ADMIRE?
Oh man I admire so many people! Most of all I have a lot of admiration for my friends and people in my life who do amazing things. I am lucky to be surrounded by artists, musicians, small business owners, and healers. Watching these loved ones develop their work and strive toward their dreams is something that makes my heart beat bigger.
FAVORITE SPOTS FOR A HEALTHY MEAL?
There are not many restaurants out here in Joshua Tree…Natural Sisters is a great spot out here for healthy food. They have a smoothie that I am pretty addicted to.
