Today is a bittersweet day. It’s bittersweet because I am sharing the news with you that I have decided to close the retail operations of IMBY.
I opened IMBY two years ago with the mission to make ethical fashion more accessible. I deeply believe in that mission to this day, and I also think IMBY’s mission evolved beyond fashion into conscious consumerism, intentional living, holistic living, and sustainability. Together we built a community of people who really care about taking care of others and the planet. That, to me, is so special.
Before I started IMBY, I advised hundreds of entrepreneurs on building their early stage businesses. The first thing I had them do is to determine their “why,”— their guiding message and mission. The “what,” I explained, was just a way to make it to your why. And for me, I still care intensely about the “why” of IMBY, but the what— retail— was not the best approach for me.
What I love about IMBY is our community, all of you who care so much about issues bigger than yourself. I love curating pieces that make people’s closets more effortless, longer lasting, and more comfortable. I love our conversations around running an eco-friendly business and life. I love that I have personally learned about intentional living, ethical fashion, and being a good human for the environment and others through the journey of running IMBY and connecting to all of you. My passion and commitment to having fewer, better things, being more environmentally friendly, and reducing stress is stronger than ever.
I, personally, don’t love retail itself, I’ve come to realize. I have always been a strategy person, and the day to day logistics of order fulfillment, inventory management, dealing with returns, and the constant need to sell sell sell just isn’t me. It’s not that I don’t believe in what I am selling, because I really, really do (our designers amaze me constantly!), I just don’t want to be the one selling it.
As you may have heard me elude to over email and Instagram, this year for me has been focused on my health which has forced me to slow down my work with IMBY and led to a lot of reflection. I have learned through my diagnosis the importance of self-care, slowing down, and not putting too much stress on myself. For me, retail is very stressful, especially for a bootstrapped company. And to be totally transparent, I haven’t paid myself a dime since starting the business– that needs to change in order to take care of myself.
I wanted to share these details with you because I have always enjoyed using IMBY as a platform for being truthful, authentic, and transparent about what it is like to own a mission-driven business. You have always been so supportive of me and of IMBY— your encouraging messages and enthusiasm have been such an honor and I cannot express how much IMBY and this community have given me.
What’s next for me and IMBY? I am not sure yet! I still love the content, community, and education side of what we do at IMBY. I love and hope to continue (and grow!) The M List. And from my own health issues, I have become even more passionate about stress-reduction, health, and wellness. I am hoping to transition further in that direction. You can follow me on my personal Instagram (@saraweinreb) to see what I am up to, and I do hope to continue IMBY in new ways with that focus. I plan to keep this email list active so I can keep you all in the loop (and if you have ideas/things you wish existed– I am all ears!). I am so excited to be able to focus more heavily on helping people live healthier, stress-reduced, less cluttered lives without the pressure of selling product. That’s what drives me, and that’s where I feel I can make a significant impact.
Now, the technical stuff. As you can imagine, I am hoping to sell as much inventory I can at the highest price possible to help me move forward and focus on my health (hopefully by the end of the year). So here’s how this will work. I am providing you with some discount codes below— I want these clothes to go into loving and enthusiastic hands! Choose the discount that feels best to you and that you can afford. If you are dying for something and 30% off is the only way, go for it! If you have an extra few bucks and want to take a lower discount (or no discount), that would be deeply appreciated– do what is right for you. I might eventually mark things down further, but I am not sure yet— and inventory (sizes, colors, units) is limited so if you have something you really want, I wouldn’t wait.
IMBY10- 10% off, IMBY20- 20% off, IMBY30- 30% off
Everything is final sale! Click here to shop the collection.
Will you help me spread the word to someone who might enjoy our clothes as well?
Thank you again for all you do to support IMBY, ethical fashion, and mindful living. I am so grateful for each and every one of you and cannot wait to include you on whatever is next for me and IMBY. I am so incredibly grateful. If you have any questions at all, feel free to reply to this email– it goes directly to me.
With lots of love, appreciation, and deep gratitude,
